Informar de esperanzas, intenciones y promesas

Para formular en estilo indirecto una intención, una esperanza o una promesa, utilizamos un verbo introductorio apropiado, seguido de una proposición introducida por 'that' que incluya 'would', o bien de una proposición introducida por infinitivo con 'to'. Los verbos que adoptan este modelo incluyen hope, promise, threaten, guarantee, swear. Note que el término 'that' es opcional, como en el primer ejemplo que figura a continuación.

"We should arrive in London before nightfall," they said. They hoped to arrive in London before nightfall. O bien:
They hoped they would arrive in London before nightfall.
"Give me the keys to the safe or I'll shoot you!" he shouted. He threatened to shoot me if I didn't give him the keys to the safe. O bien:
He threatened that he would shoot me if I didn't give him the keys to the safe.
"I will not tell anyone your secret" he said. He swore that he would not tell anyone my secret. O bien:
He swore not to tell anyone my secret.
